El buque escuela de la Armada Española ha recalado en abril en el puerto de Santo Domingo después de 6 años desde su última visita en 2008. Nuestro cofrade Héctor Duval ha colaborado a través de la Asociación Dominicana de Veleros de Competencia Oceánica y la Federación Dominicana de Vela en la organización de la Regata Copa Juan Sebastián Elcano como acto de confraternización con el buque escuela.
La regata se organizó para que coincidiera con la llegada del buque Juan Sebastián Elcano a Santo Domingo, de tal forma que el buque escuela estuvo acompañado de varios veleros de la Asociación Dominicana en su entrada a Santo Domingo. Es de resaltar que el capitán, un oficial y varios guardamarinas acompañaron a los veleros en la regata de confraternización.
La regata en la que participaron 9 veleros tuvo como vencedores a: .1. Amor Chuquito – Félix Payano 2. Shiraz – Hector Duval y 3. Pegasus – Frank Ortega

Actualmente el buque se encuentra realizando el LXXXV Crucero de Instrucción para Guardias Marinas, que en su segunda fase partió de Cádiz el pasado 01 de marzo y lo llevó a visitar los puertos de Praia (Cabo Verde) y Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) antes de arribar al puerto dominicano. El buque escuela partió el unes 28 por la mañana rumbo a la ciudad estadounidense de Nueva York, última escala en el continente americano antes de iniciar de nuevo el cruce del Océano Atlántico y continuar su Crucero de Instrucción por puertos del Norte de Europa.
Durante su estancia, la dotación y guardias marinas del buque han participado en diferentes actos protocolarios y de confraternización con la población dominicana, destacando las recepciones en la Casa de España y la visita de los alumnos a la Escuela Naval dominicana. Y asistieron a una interesante conferencia sobre el control del tráfico de drogas en el Mar Caribe.
El “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” ha estado abierto a visitas al público durante todo el fin de semana.

THE SHIP JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO DOES SCALE IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND OUR FRATERNITY MEMBER, HECTOR DUVAL, COLLABORATES IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE RACE CUP JUAN SEBASTIAN ELCANO.
This April, the training ship of the Spanish Armada has washed up at the port of Santo Domingo after 6 years, since his last visit in 2008. Our brother Hector Duval has worked through the Dominican Association of Ocean Sailing Competition and the Dominican Sailing Federation in the organization of the Regata Cup Juan Sebastian Elcano as an act of fraternization with the training ship.
The race was organized to coincide with the arrival of the ship Juan Sebastian Elcano to Santo Domingo, so that the training ship was sailing accompanied by several sailing boats of the Dominican Association at its entrance to Santo Domingo. It is noteworthy that the captain, an officer and several midshipmen accompanied the sailing regatta on fraternization.
In the participated nine sailing boats, and the winners were: : 1 . Love Chuquito – Felix Shiraz Payano 2- . Hector Duval and 3 Pegasus – . Frank Ortega.
Currently the ship is carrying the LXXXV Training Cruise for Midshipme , which in its second phase last left Cadiz on March 1 and has visitedt the ports of Praia (Cape Verde) and Cartagena ( Colombia ) before arriving at the Dominican port . The ship left Santo Domingo in the morning of 28 of April towards the city of New York , the last stop on the American continent before starting again crossing the Atlantic Ocean and continue their training cruise to northern European ports .
During their stay, the crew and ship’s midshipmen participated in different protocol and events of fraternization with the Dominican population, highlighting the activity in the House of Spain and the visit of the students to the Dominican Naval Academy. They attended an interesting conferences about the control of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea.
The ” Juan Sebastián de Elcano” has been open for tours to the public throughout the weekend.
