La Camara Municipal de Viana do Castelo ha acogido la 3 edición del Foro de la Cofradía Europea de la Vela, en este caso dedicado a la cultura marítima.
The municipality of Viana do Castelo has hosted the 3rd edition of the Forum of the European Sailing Fraternity, in this case dedicated to the maritime culture.
El Capítulo de Norte-Oporto ha desarrollado un programa de actos que ha tenido una gran aceptación y éxito. Los asistentes han sido mas de 65 personas procedentes de España y Portugal.
Por la mañana se desarrollaron cuatro visitas a experiencias náuticas de éxito. La primera fue al Navío Hospital Gil Eannes, hoy dedicado a museo. Este barco está fuertemente vinculado con el apoyo a la pesca del bacalao de los barcos portugueses.
Posteriormente tuvo lugar la Comida de Confraternización en el Hotel Flor de Sal presidida por el Presidente de la Cámara de Viana do Castelo Jose Maria Costa, y desde el que se podía sentir el olor del mar al estar situado a menos de 50 metros de este.
La primera conferencia del profesor de la Universidad D Luis Adao da Fonseca se centró en las razones y causas de la conquista de Ceuta por parte de Portugal hace 600 años. Destacar que la principal razón residía en que mientras España apostó en su expansión por una expansión territorial, Portugal apostó por una expansión en rutas marítimas y comercial. Para ello los estrechos y cabos eran los elementos clave de dicha expansión. El permitir abrir el estrecho de Gibraltar al reconquistar esos territorios y al conquistar Ceuta permitió abrir una nueva ruta desde el Mediterráneo al Norte de Europa. Así el finisterre occidental, como así se conocía a Galicia y Portugal, pasó de ser el fin de la tierra al centro de una gran ruta que comunicaba el norte y sur de Europa.
En la segunda conferencia realizada por el Vice-Almirante Antonio Silva Ribeiro de la Armada Portuguesa que tiene varias publicaciones de temas marítimos, completó la primera conferencia desarrollando el papel de la cartografía náutica y especialmente la desarrollada por Portugal en la expansión hacia el Golfo de Guinea y las Indias a través de la creación de ciudades y puertos para abastecer y desarrollar sus rutas marítimas. Destacar la política de sigilo que la Corona Portuguesa impuso sobre las copias de las cartas náuticas de sus rutas a la India para protegerlas de las otras grandes potencias. Por último se hizo un repaso a los grandes cartógrafos portugueses.
El acto fue clausurado por el Presidente de la Camara de Viana do Castelo, Jose Maria Costa, quien se puede presentar como un visionario que ha sabido orientar su municipio consciente de la importancia que tuvo, tiene y tendrá el mar para el futuro de su territorio.
FORUM ESF OF VIANA DO CASTELO. PAST AND FUTURE OF MARITIME ROUTES. AN EXAMPLE OF INTEGRATION OF THE SEA WITH POPULATION
The municipality of Viana do Castelo has hosted the 3rd edition of the Forum of the European Sailing Fraternity, in this case dedicated to the maritime culture.
The Chapter of North and Oporto has developed a program of events that has been widely accepted and successful. There were more than 65 people from Spain and Portugal.
In the morning four visits about successfully experiences on nautical sector were developed. The first was in the Hospital Ship Gil Eannes, today dedicated as a museum. This boat is strongly linked to support the fishing Portuguese ships in the cod fishing.
The second part of the visits were to know the centers of development of water sports in surfing, sailing and rowing. The Vice President of the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, Vitor Lemos presented the project of the net of Sea Centers which includes the development of facilities for all water sports and a program that has allowed schools to the nautical sports. As we can hear in the First conference, Europe is the most maritime continent in the world with the major population less than 350 kilometers from the coast. Viana do Castelo has managed very well its resources and future looking its youth to the sea.
Then it came the Fraternization Meal in the Hotel Flor de Sal chaired by the President of the Municipality of Viana do Castelo Jose Maria Costa, situated so close to the sea that you can smell the sea brezee.
The first conference of University professor Luis Adao da Fonseca was focused on the reasons and causes of the conquest of Ceuta by Portugal 600 years ago. The conference emphasized that the main reason of the conquest was that while Spain decided a territorial expansion, Portugal opted for an expansion of maritime and commercial routes. The straits and capes were the keys elements of the routes expansion. The conquer of the Strait of Gibraltar and Ceuta opened a new route from the Mediterranean to northern Europe. Those meaning that the Western finisterre, known as Galicia and Portugal, went from being the end of the earth to be the center of a great route that connected the northern and southern Europe.
The second conference was held by Vice-Admiral Antonio Silva Ribeiro of the Portuguese Navy who has several publications about maritime issues. He completed the first conference developing the role of nautical charting and especially those developed by Portugal on expansion of Portugal into the Gulf of Guinea and the Indies through the creation of cities and ports to supply and develop its maritime routes. Highlight the protection of the Nautical Charts from the Portuguese Crown to try to protect its routes to India from the other great powers. Finally, a review was made to the great Portuguese cartographers.
The event was closed by the President of the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, Jose Maria Costa, who can be present as a visionary who has managed its municipality to the sea, conscious of its importance now and in the future.
