La Discoveries Race 2017, regata que tendrá lugar del 27 de agosto al 3 de septiembre con salida desde Lisboa-Cascais y llegada a Las Palmas de de Gran Canaria, ha abierto su plazo de inscripción. Se trata de un homenaje a las Armadas de los dos países descubridores por excelencia, España y Portugal.
La idea de esta travesía oceánica nació en la Cofradía Europea de la Vela mediante las mesas temáticas celebradas con motivo de la Investidura de nuevos Cofrades en la ciudad de Oporto en septiembre del 2016, donde el Cofrade Enrique Boissier presentó la idea de revivir la vieja regata Brest –Las Palmas, que fue bien recibida y que llevó a un grupo de Cofrades a empezar a madurar el tema centrándose inicialmente en crear una regata en homenaje a los dos grandes países Descubridores en los siglos XV y XVI como fueron España y Portugal.
La salida se llevará a cabo frente a uno de los sitios más emblemáticos como es el Monumento a los Descubrimientos, situado en las proximidades de la Torre de Belem en Lisboa.
Esta regata de altura entre la Península Ibérica y las Islas Canarias pretende promover el intercambio deportivo, cultural y económico; además de descubrir, desarrollar y fomentar el entendimiento de la amistad e igualdad entre amigos de distintas nacionalidades y que tiene como pasión común, el mar.

The Discoveries Race 2017 will take place from 27 August to 3 September with departure cities of Lisbon-Cascais and arrival to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Nowadays its registration, has been opened. This Regatta is a tribute to the Armies of the two discovering countries par excellence, Spain and Portugal.
The idea of this ocean Regatta was born in the European Sailing Fraternity of the through the thematic Committees held on the occasion of the Investiture of new Members in the city of Oporto in September 2016, where the member Enrique Boissier from Las Palmas presented the idea of Regatta reviving the old regatta Brest -Las Palmas. The idea was well received and led a group of members to begin to work on it. The proposal was to create a regatta in tribute to the two great Discovering countries in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries as were Spain and Portugal.
The exit will be held in front of one of the most emblematic sites such as the Monument to the Discoveries, in the Tower of Belem in Lisbon.
