Puente de Rande desde la Illa de San Simón
Galicia organiza el 2 Foro CEV dedicado a la Batalla de Rande, la Disputa sobre la Illa de San Simón como Lazareto del Atlántico en España, la Monarquía española en la época de Napoleon III en Francia a través de las Caricaturas y los efectos del Prestige sobre las personas. Además tuvieron lugar reuniones de trabajo de la Cofradía, visitas y un homenaje a los cofrades fallecidos.
Galicia has organized the second European Sailing Fraternity Forum dedicated to the Battle of Rande, disputes over de Illa de San Simon as Atlantic Lazaretto of Spain, the Spanish Monarchy in the Napoleon the third times via cartoonist and the effects of the Prestige oil disaster on humans. Besides they took place work meetings of the Fraternity, visits and a Memorial to the deceased Brothers.
La Illa de San Simón, escenario de ataques piratas de Drake, batallas como la de Rande, punto de llegada de travesías del Atlántico y cárcel ha vuelto a ser un faro para los amantes del mar a través de las actividades celebradas del 27 al 29 de junio por la Cofradía Europea de la Vela.
La CEV ha vuelto a organizar por 2 año consecutivo actividades en la Illa de San Simón, perteneciente a la Xunta de Galicia en el municipio de Redondela y en el marco de la Ría de Vigo.
La participación ha sido similar a la del año anterior con un total de 37 personas procedentes principalmente de Galicia y Norte de Portugal.
Actividades que han tenido lugar
2 Foro CEV Illa de San Simón
Esta línea de divulgación y sensibilización sobre temas del mar se inició con el Foro Internacional de Barcelona coordinado por el Presidente del comité de Foros y Conferencias Joan Camuñas. La Cofradía organiza Foros Internacionales y Nacionales además de promover la participación de nuestros cofrades en otros eventos organizados por otras entidades.
Este 2 Foro CEV Illa de San Simón se enmarca en los Foros Nacionales, en este caso promovido por el Capítulo de Galicia.
De las 5 áreas de reflexión, debate y divulgación que la CEV promueve: vela social, vela deportiva, cultura marítima, economía y medioambiente, en este Foro CEV se han desarrollado las áreas de cultura marítima y de medio ambiente.
En el área de Cultura Marítima 3 presentaciones y debates tuvieron lugar sobre los siguientes temas:
– Visión de la Monarquía Española y Francesa en los tiempo s de Napoleón III en Francia a través de los caricaturistas españolas del sexenio liberal. (Dolores Troncoso. Catedrática Universidad de Vigo)
– La batalla de Rande, razones y paradojas de los intervinientes. (José María Blanco)
– Las disputas por la Illa de San Simón y su trascendencia económica para el desarrollo de la Ría de Vigo. (José María Blanco)
En el área de medio ambiente se desarrolló una presentación sobre el magnífico Estudio desarrollado por la Universidad de la Coruña y la Catedrática Blanco Laffon sobre los efectos de los hidrocarburos sobre la vida humana a partir de la catástrofe petrolera del barco Prestige en las costas gallegas.

Memento a los cofrades fallecidos
La cofradía Europea de la Vela no olvida a sus miembros fallecidos y por ello ha organizado en la Capilla de la Illa de San Simón un recuerdo a todos los cofrades fallecidos y sus familiares a través de unas palabras de nuestro Gran Maestre, Francisco Quiroga en las que recordó al trovador de la Edad Media Mendinho, que tiene una escultura en la Illa y del que se leyó esa Cantiga (poema) que hablaba sobre la desesperación de una mujer que aguarda en la Ermita de San Simón por su ser amado marinero.
Seguidamente se leyó uno a uno los nombres de los fallecidos y se guardó un minuto de silencio. El acto finalizó con la Salve Marinera entonada por los asistentes a capela.
Los fallecidos que siguen vivos en nuestro recuerdo son:
– Maná Pinheiro. Gran regatista y dirigente de la vela portuguesa
– Fernando Bolín. Presidente de la Federación Española de Vela y Vicepresidente de la ISAF
– Miguel Company. Presidente de la Real Federación Española de Vela.
– Enrique Puig. Gran patrocinador y promotor de la Regata Copa del Rey.
– Alberto Trincado. Directivo de la Federación Gallega de Vela y promotor del proyecto NAVEGA (Nova Acción da Vela Galega)
– Marcial Sánchez Barcaiztegui. Gran promotor de la vela en la Armada Española.
– Carlos Pardo. Regatista y dirigente de Club Naval de Regatas de Ferrol y Federación Gallega de Vela.
– Jaime Enseñat. Presidente de la Federación Balear de Vela y creador de la Regata Princesa Sofía.
– Alfredo Morales Armas. Regatista y dirigente de la Vela en Lanzarote.
Visita a la Illa de San Simón.
Se desarrolló una visita guiada a los 29 puntos de interés de la Illa de San Simón.
Comidas de confraternización
Se desarrolló la tradicional Paella de cierre del viaje elaborada por el cofrade Jesús Pérez Costas y degustada en el antiguo comedor del Lazareto que conserva todavía el piso original de 1840. Este año fue acompañado por una degustación de pulpo realizada por una pulpeira del lugar de referencia en Galicia para el pulpo en el municipio de Carballino.
Reuniones entre cofrades y nuevas propuestas
En el marco de los días de confraternización han surgido nuevas potenciales cofrades que optarán a serlo próximamente. Además tuvo lugar una reunión del Comité de Investidura de Oporto que está preparando la próxima Investidura en dicha ciudad para el 12 de septiembre de 2015 y que está coordinado por Antonio Roquette.
Por último surgieron nuevas propuestas para el desarrollo de la Cofradía y su apertura al exterior a través del estudio de la creación de la figura del “amigo de la cofradía”, que será próximamente tratado por la Tabla.

ILLA SAN SIMON HAS BEEN A BEACON OF CULTURE AGAIN THANKS TO THE EUROPEAN SAILING FRATERNITY
The Illa de San Simón, scene of Drake pirate attacks, battles like Rande, point of destiny of crossings Atlantic Ships and jail, has become again a beacon for lovers of the sea through the activities held from 27 to 29 June by the European Sailing Fraternity.
Again the CEV has organized activities on the island of San Simon for 2 time. This island belongs to the Galician regional government in the, municipality of Redondela and part of the Vigo Bay
The participation was similar to the previous year with a total of 37 people, mainly from Galicia and northern Portugal.
Activities that have taken place were:
2nd Forum CEV Illa San Simon
This line of work of the Fraternity began with the Barcelona International Forum coordinated by the President’s of the Forums and Conferences Committee Joan Camuñas. The Fraternity organizes international and national forums and promote the participation of our brothers in other events organized by others entities.
This second Forum CEV Illa de San Simon is part of the Nationals Forum, in this case promoted by the Chapter of Galicia.
The Fraternity promotes 5 areas of reflection, discussion and dissemination: social sailing, sport sailing, maritime culture, economy and environment. In this Forum the Fraternity has developed the areas of maritime culture and environment.
In the area of Maritime Culture were held 3 presentations and discussions on the following topics:
– Vision of the Spanish and French Monarchy in the time of Napoleon III in France via the Spanish liberal cartoonists in the six democratic years times. (Dolores Troncoso. Catedrática Universidad de Vigo)
– The Battle of Rande, reasons and paradoxes of the conflict. (José María Blanco)
– Disputes over the Illa de San Simon, transcendence and economic development of the Ria de Vigo. (José María Blanco)
In the area of environment was introduced the magnificent study developed by the Professor Blanca Laffon of the University of Coruña about the effects of oil from the ship Prestige oil disaster on human life in Galician coast.
Memento to the deceased brothers
The European Sailing Fraternity did not forget its deceased members and has organized in the Chapel of St. Simon Illa a reminder to all deceased brothers and their families through a word from our Grand Master Francisco Quiroga. He reminded the troubadour Mendinho from Middle Age, which has a sculpture at the Illa de San Simon and he read his Cantiga (poem) that talked about the desperation of a woman who waits in the Ermita (Chapel) of San Simon for his loved one sailor
Then read one by one the names of the deceased and one minute of silence. The event ended with the Salve Marinera sung a cappella by the attendees.

A guided tour of the 29 sites in the San Simon Illa visit took place.
Fraternization lunch
The traditional Paella made by the brother Jesús Pérez Costas closed the events in Illa San Simon. All participants enjoyed the lunch in the old dining Lazaretto that still retains the original floor of 1840 when it was developed. This year the Fratenizacion lunch was accompanied by a tasting of octopus on a Pulpeira of the main octopus town in Galicia, O Carballino.
Meetings between brothers and new proposals
Under the events of the Fraternity the participants were talking about new potential brothers who can opt to be confirmed. In addition, a meeting of the Investiture Committee of Oporto took place to prepare the next Investiture in that city for the September 12, 2015 and that it is coordinated by Antonio Roquette.
Finally new proposals for development of the Brotherhood were developed as to study of the creation of a new typology of collaborator as the “Friend of the Brotherhood,” which will soon be discussed by the Board of Directors.
