Investidura Ferrol. 15-17 Marzo 2013.
Crónica personal de unos muy buenos días …pasados por agua.
La primera vez, Oporto, fuimos con una cierta timidez.
Estuvimos muy a gusto en ese primer encuentro.
Después vino Lisboa donde pasé de Novicio a Cofrade. Muchos recuerdos, todos buenos, están todavía presentes.
Mas tarde la entrega en Coruña a Chuny Bermúdez de Castro del Premio de la Cofradía de la Vela 2012.
Y ahora Ferrol. El espíritu con el que nos desplazamos era totalmente distinto pues era la sensación de ir a compartir unos días con amigos conocidos de toda la vida. Tan amigos que la primera charla fue con nuestros amigos de Ribadeo para terminar de transmitirnos la formula para preparar una buen pescado en salsa de ajada……….
La acogida en el hotel con unos precios, siempre de agradecer, realmente muy baratos y un servicio de primera, fue complementada con un estupendo cocktail, aunque yo diría, una buenísima cena informal.
El sábado empezaron las actividades organizadas, con la opción de escoger entre dos opciones.
Excursión por la Ría de Ferrol, Castillo de San Felipe y Puerto exterior. Creo que no habría ninguna objeción en volver a incluir esta excursión en futuras actividades en futuras reuniones en Ferrol. El agua que caía impidió disfrutar de lo que debe ser un atractivo paseo en barco por la ría .
La otra opción de visitar el Arsenal de Ferrol y Exponav fue una gratísima y sorprendente experiencia para los que no lo conocíamos.
Exponav Ferrol
En cualquier otra ciudad ó país, Exponav sería un centro de visitas que sería conocido y divulgado a nivel nacional como muestra de la evolución de las embarcaciones primitivas y actuales.
Sería un punto focal de excursiones de adultos, visitas escolares y motivo de atracción de muchas personas, nacionales y extranjeras para visitar Ferrol. He viajado y visitado muchos países y ciudades españolas y extranjeras y en muchas de ellas te “venden” museos del mar y/o historias de barcos antiguos que no son nada comparado con lo existente en Ferrol.
En el programa, Pedro, incluyó ese día un vino español en el Parador . Si eso es un “vino español” para Pedro, no sé a que le llamará aperitivo informal ó ya no digamos comida formal.
Por la tarde pudimos asistir a dos charlas bien amenas e interesantes sobre el “ Evolución de la de la Cofradía Europea de la Vela”, y sobre “La Cartografía Europea del Siglo XVI al XX” impartidas respectivamente por Joan Antón Camuñas Feijoo y Carmelo Puertas, respectivamente.

En “El Montón” , restaurante del Club Naval de Oficiales, celebramos la cena oficial de confraternidad.
Nuevamente la lluvia impidió que disfrutáramos de su terraza y de sus vistas, que solo se pudieron intuir mientras uno se mojaba cuando se salía al exterior.
…y llegó el domingo, día clave en estas reuniones. La ceremonia de Investidura.
No sé que sentiré cuando ya haya asistido a algunas más, pero yo personalmente sigo emocionándome en este acto, cuando ves la actitud de los nuevos cofrades y recuerdas cuando estuviste en esa misma situación tiempo atrás.
Y como siempre hay que destacar la música.
Esta vez fue la Banda Municipal de Ferrol quien nos acompañó con una serie de interpretaciones, clásicas , marineras y populares, todas conocidas e interpretadas con una gran calidad.
Tras el fin de la ceremonia, tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir todos, nuevos, veteranos, y familiares de ambos un aperitivo y deseos de vernos nuevamente.
Y termino con el agradecimiento , una vez más , a todas las personas responsables de la organización del evento.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY IN FERROL. 15TH TO 17TH OF MARCH 2013.
PERSONAL REPORT OF A VERY GOOD, AND RAINY FEW DAYS…..
Our first time, in Oporto, we went with a certain shyness.
We were very comfortable in that first meeting.
Then came Lisbon where I went from novice to “Cofrade” or “Brother”. Many memories, all good, are still present.
After that, the European Sailing Fraternity Award giving ceremony to Chuny Bermudez de Castro in Coruña 2012.
And now Ferrol. The spirit that drove us there was a totally different feeling, it was like going to share a few days with lifelong friends. Such good friends in fact, that the first conversation we had was with our friends from Ribadeo, to finish telling each other the perfect formula for making a good garlic fish sauce……..
The welcome at the hotel with really reasonable prices, always to be thankful for, and the first class service, was complemented with a great cocktail party, although I would say, a very good casual dinner.
The organized activities began on Saturday, with two options to choose from.
A tour of the Ría de Ferrol, the San Felipe Castle and the outer harbour. I think that there would be no objection to re-include this tour in future meetings held in Ferrol. The rain that fell prevented the enjoyment of what must be an attractive boat ride around the estuary.
The other option of visiting the Exponav Ferrol Arsenal was a very pleasant and surprising experience for those of us who were unacquainted with it.
In any other city or country, Exponav Ferrol would be a visitor centre that would be known and divulged nationally, as a demonstration of the evolution of primitive and contemporary craft.
It would be a focal point for adult trips, school visits and an attraction for many people, both national and from abroad, to visit Ferrol. I have travelled and visited many countries, Spanish and foreign cities, and many of them will “sell” you maritime museums and / or stories of ancient boats, that are nothing compared with what exists in Ferrol.
In the program, Peter included that day a Spanish wine served at the Parador. If that’s a “Spanish Wine” for Peter, I don’t know what he will call a casual snack or let alone a formal lunch.

In the afternoon we were able to attend two rather entertaining and interesting lectures on the “Evolution of the European Sailing Fraternity”, and on “The European Mapping Practices from the Sixteenth to the Twentieth Century”, given respectively by Joan Antón Camuñas Feijoo and Carmelo Puertas.
At the “Montón” Naval Officers Club Restaurant, we celebrated the official fellowship dinner.
Again the rain prevented us from enjoying the outside terrace and its exceptional view, which could only be guessed at as one got wet when going outside.
… and the Sunday arrived, key day to these meetings…. The Investiture Ceremony.
I do not know what I will feel when I have attended a few more, but personally I am still very moved during these ceremonies, when you see the attitude of the new brothers, and remember when you were in the same situation some time ago.
And as always the music was noteworthy.
This time it was the Ferrol Municipal Brass Band who accompanied us with a series of classical, popular and maritime performances, all well known and interpreted with great quality.

After the end of the ceremony, we all had the opportunity to share, novices, veterans and families of both, an appetizer with the wish to see us all again.
