El sábado 17 de noviembre de 2012 Roberto Bermúdez de Castro “Chuny” ha recibido de la Cofradía Europea de la Vela el Premio 2012.
El acto se desarrolló en el Real Club Náutico de la Coruña en las instalaciones del Edificio Social en su salón noble.
Como todos los actos de la Cofradía se ha seguido un riguroso protocolo y la bienvenida a los cofrades con su atuendo fue realizada con el Antiguo Himno del Reino de Galicia. El desfile de los cofrades y finalmente el premiado fue amenizado por el Himno de Europa.
El Presidente del Real Club Náutico de la Coruña, Germán Suárez Pumariega, recordó en su palabras la figura de Chuny como deportista que inició su andadura en ese Club y como desde pequeño destacó entre sus compañeros por su tenacidad y capacidad competitiva que lo han llevado hasta lo mas alto en la competición deportiva a nivel mundial.
A continuación intervino el Presidente del Comité del Premio CEV, Antonio Roquette, quien recordó la unanimidad en la elección de Chuni como el elegido para la edición de 2012. Manifestó el objetivo de los Premios, que no es otro, que reconocer a personas amantes de la vela que han desacatado en alguna de las 4 áreas objetivo de la Cofradía: social, deportiva, económica o cultural. En este caso, Chuni ha destacado y destaca en el ámbito deportivo siendo un claro ejemplo sus 5 participaciones en la Volvo Ocean Race.
Finalmente el Gran Maestre, Francisco Quiroga, dio un repaso a la evolución que la Cofradía ha sufrido desde sus comienzos y como actualmente se encuentra en plena actividad como lo demuestra la Audiencia con su majestad el Rey, o los tres Premios de la Cofradía concedidos. Respecto a Chuni recordó su vinculación con la vela desde temprana edad y como lo conoció regateando cuando nuestro Gran Maestre era el Secretario de la Clase Optimist de Galicia. Así se muestra como el trabajo bien hecho desde la base acaba dando sus frutos.
El premio consistió en una pieza de bronce del escultor Suso Vázquez del que la Cofradía dió cumplida fe de su carácter internacional en el viaje de confraternización realizado a la ciudad de Qingdao, donde vieron una pieza del artista, evocando las velas que caracterizan a la Cofradía. La entrega fue realizada por el Gran Maestre y el Presidente del Comité del Premio CEV, Antonio Roquette.
Posteriormente Chuni dirigió unas palabras de agradecimiento a la Cofradía, haciendo gala de su humildad y sencillez, considerando que no era merecedor de un galardón tan importante para él por provenir de las gentes amantes del mar.
El acto finalizó con un vino español ofrecido para todos los invitados y cofrades y una comida de confraternización.
Es de destacar el apoyo del Real Club Náutico de La Coruña al colaborar desinteresadamente con esta actividad de la Cofradía, en especial al ofrecido por su Presidente Germán Suárez Pumariega y su Director Deportivo Francisco Fuentes.
CHUNI RECEIVES THE EUROPEAN SAILING PRIZE IN THE ROYAL YACHT CLUB CORUÑA
On Saturday November 17 of 2012 Roberto Bermudez de Castro “Chuny” has received the 2012 Award from the European Sailing Fraternity.
The event took place at the Royal Yacht Club of Coruña in the nobel saloon of his social facilities.
Like all acts of the Brotherhood It has made with a rigorous protocol and the welcome was made with the old hymn of the Kingdom of Galicia. Afterwords It took place a parade of the brothers and finally the winner entered with the European Himm.
The President of the Royal Yacht Club de La Coruña, Germán Suárez Pumariega, recalled in his words Chuny figure as an athlete that started in the Club and as since childhood stood out among his peers for his toughness and competitiveness that have led to as high in competitive sport worldwide.
The next speaker was the Chairman of the Prize Committee CEV, Antonio Roquette, who recalled the unanimous choice as Chuni chosen for the 2012 edition. He said the objective of the Awards is to recognize people yachters who flouted in any of the four target areas of the Brotherhood: social, sporting, economic or cultural. In this case, Chuni stressed and highlights in sport is a clear example its 5 participations in the Volvo Ocean Race.
Finally the Grand Master, Francisco Quiroga, gave an overview of the evolution that the Brotherhood has suffered since its beginning and as how It is now in full swing as evidenced by the audience with His Majesty the King of Spain, or all three CEV Awards. Regarding Chuni recalled its link to the sea from an early age and as haggling met when our Grand Master was the Secretary of the Optimist Class of Galicia. This is shown as a job well done from the base just paying off.
The award consisted of a piece of bronze from the sculptor Suso Vazquez. A international person as it was proved with a sculpture in Quindao (China) that it was seen by Cofradia in a international journey of fraternization. The delivery was made by the Grand Master and the Chairman of the Prize Committee CEV, Antonio Roquette.
Finally Chuni spoke a few words of thanks to the Brotherhood, showing his humility and simplicity, considering that it was worthy of an award as important to him as coming from the people who love the sea.
The event ended with a Spanish wine offered to all guests and brothers and a meal of fellowship.
Noteworthy is the support of the Real Club Nautico de La Coruña to work selflessly with the activity of the Brotherhood, especially that it is offered to his President Germán Suárez Pumariega and Sports Director Francisco Fuentes.
